What it is

IGF-1 LR3 is a lab-made version of insulin-like growth factor 1, a hormone the liver releases in response to growth hormone. The LR3 change keeps it active in the body much longer than the natural form.

IGF-1 is the hormone that carries out most of what growth hormone is credited with. The liver releases it in response to growth hormone, and it does the actual work on muscle and tissue.

A form of IGF-1 is FDA-approved as a medicine, but only for children with a rare growth disorder. IGF-1 LR3 is a different, modified molecule and is not approved for anything.

The LR3 change was designed for laboratory use, to keep cells exposed to the growth factor for longer. That same change is why it lasts so long in the body.

Most IGF-1 in your blood is not free. It rides bound to carrier proteins, which control how much reaches tissue and when.

The LR3 modification stops it from binding those carriers. Without that brake, far more stays active, and it stays active much longer than the natural form.
